I'd post schematics but I think I'm getting blocked because the Word "Car C No" is in the Hot link as well,Ĭan you draw a little diagram of the caps with the diodes.įWIW Merlin Blencowe, mentions caps in parallel with diodes to encourage voltage sharing across diodes in series rectifiers. Oh yeah and it's super quite, even at full volume no buzz or hum :) Just by adding 2 caps in a way I've never seen before? but it works.īy changing the way the diodes interact with the OD chip I've removed the fizz but kept the rattle and crunch.ĭriving a 2x10 cab it sounds very promising now, even usable at small gigs. I believe I've made a breakthrough, maybe from dogged persistence rather that brain power, So the Aim of the BB test was to see if I could get the 2 channels to sound similar but just add more crunch but also remove that dreaded diode fizz. This imbalance is not just volume it's just the extreme diode fizz that really annoys me and often complete tone change.Īs mentioned by thoglette The Clean actually on mine distorts likely to collapsing supply and gives a little crunch but by then it's too loud for home use. I've modified it a bit over several years but recently decided to BBoard it and find out if I could improve the trashy sound to something acceptable.Īs like most of these small amps the biggest issue is the imbalance between the clean and dirt sound. I have a little Car-C-No 12, another one of those elcheapo 10 watt chip amps. Pps - the 15R schematic from this thread on TDPRI. PS the 15R is designed not to come apart and one needs to be careful not to damage the power LED when accessing the PCB (don't ask me how I know ) I'm looking to get one, if just to A/B against the P15R On a P10 with no tremolo and no footswitch, not so useful. Yes, the same effect can be had from a boost pedal but for the 15R the other side of the pedal also switches the tremolo so it's useful in real life. The gain bypass mod makes the boost switch (and more importantly, boost pedal switch) useful. Presuming that it's the same op amp to start off with. The problem is that the P10 has a rather different circuit which already has an option to remove the LEDs from the circuit. Much like the Ruby amp (but not to the same degree), it's clear that the op amp power supply is collapsing when it clips, resulting in some clear compression and therefore generation of Real Tone(tm). Today, one of the clipping circuits is not working (likely due to crap soldering ) but I can now see what all the fuss is about for the no-LED mod. I'm a Pathfinder 15R owner who's one-dry-joint (I know ) away from having both a gain bypass mod and clipping selectable between standard 2 x LED, nothing (thanks to a centre off DPDT switch) or a custom circuit. Sounds good clean but the overdrive / distortion switch / boost is not that great. Quote from: crazynutter on November 24, 2019, 11:41:02 PM
